Self Publishing Lessons Learned

As I get closer to finishing my latest story I wanted to share a couple of the lessons I learned early on (last year).

1) FORMATTING: You can check your formating without publishing a story on any of the formats. Play with this until you have all the nuances of the required format covered. I have a document template saved for Kindle publishing as well as Smashwords. Once you have a template done start your next story with it. For me it saves me a fair amount of time, because formatting isn’t something I enjoy.

2) High Level Editing: I’ve started to rewrite by scene, once I complete a scene in a story I go back through it once to make sure it works the way I intended. I’ve previously waited until I finished the entire project to ga back through. This has left me scratching my head on more than one occasion wondering what I was trying to say. Usually because I’ve forgotten words, used run on sentences or not paused where I needed to. I still go back through once I’m done however, I’m less frustrated when I do.

New Story, Cockold Fantasy

After writing a number of stories around the same two charachters acting out various slutty ativities I’ve started a new story based on another theme thats always made me tingle. The cockold!

Watching, being watched have always been major components of my stories but this particualar twist has always struck me as a bit more personal. It may end up being the longest single story yet.

Hopeful to release by the end of the month. I still need to finalize the title.

Free Promotion Review

I just wrapped up my latest Free Promotion via KDP Select on Amazon. It only totaled 106 free downloads with most of thos coming during the first 24 hours. During this promotion I did have a few sales of other titles which is an welcome change.

Now, the hope is that giving away some copies of The Steam Room II will lead to more slaes to follow. I’ll keep you posted on that piece. What might be the biggest benifit is the how the title is shared with other like books, bought this also, type promotions.

Each of my free promotions on Amazon has done worse than the one before it. I’m not sure if this is a reflection on my self promotion skills, writing skills or a result of the changing landscape of e-publishing.

I try to keep my eye out for other new writers. To see how they are doing, what they are doing, whats working.

Has anyone had good success with a free promotion recently?

 

The Steam Room II Free Promotion Update

The Steam Room II has been free since Thursday, after the intial 60 downloads it has managed 20 per day since.

This is the first promotion that I have had sales during. While running all my previous “Free Promotions” I have not had a single sale. This week  had sales on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The “A My Slut Story” Collection continues to sell well! I’m debating on making a Complete Collection offering as well and see what happens.

The Steam Room II, Free Promotion Day 1 Review

Day 1 resulted in 60 downloads. The Steam Room II stuck around 3,500 in the free downloads ranking. The number of other stories link via “Customers Who viewed this also viewed”  has jumped to 9 pages from 4 so in the long run that should help.
